New Parents

pjc_bbyCongratulations on your new baby! You’re in for an amazing experience that is rewarding in more ways than you can probably imagine right now. A lot of what we “think” about Down syndrome is based on old, outdated information, stereotypes and just plain wrong myths. Today, our understanding of Down syndrome helps children lead healthy, happy and productive lives. It is very common for teens and adults with Down syndrome to hold regular jobs. Children attend regular classes and make close friends with other kids who don’t have Down syndrome. Perhaps most importantly, early interventions help children grow up to lead largely independent lives – living on their own, shopping, using public transportation, and yes, even driving in some cases.

But that is in the future. You may have a lot of questions right now and we’re here to help. We have developed a free New Parent Basket that can help you. When you’re ready, we’d be delighted to talk to you to answer any questions you may have or talk about ways you can get involved. We know it’s a lot to think about right now and can be scary. We’ve all been where you are and we want to help you in any way you need. Just ask us.
